Make Dahlia Pinnatas for Columbia's Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Come by the Visit Tuolumne County headquarters on 2nd Saturday Art Night in April to kick off Tuolumne County Art Week and help make decorations for Columbia's upcoming Cinco de Mayo Celebration. We'll be making Dahlia Pinnatas that will adorn Main Street of Columbia State Historic Park.

Columbia was home to the very first Cinco de May celebration in 1862! Today, local organization, ConAmor continues the celebratory tradition.

The Dahlia is considered the national flower of Mexico and has quite a large bloom. The interesting petal pattern makes the flowers intriguing to look at and they're sometimes used in salads. They represent elegance and dignity and have been the national flower of Mexico since 1963. Flowers  are a fundamental part of Mexican culture for centuries and they are still used nowadays in rituals, medicine, and human diet. The variety of flowers ‘colors in Mexico is striking and fascinating.
