Micro Itinerary: Art Afternoon in Sonora

An Art Afternoon in Sonora

Historic Downtown Sonora is brimming with local art! Follow along with local Tuolumne County artist Sally Anne Fischer as she spends an afternoon exploring the murals, pottery, paintings, and all things art in Sonora!

A quick introduction: My name is Sally Anne Fischer and I am a watercolor artist from Sonora California. My favorite things to paint are: old buildings, flowers, landscapes, and goats. I own a home in Downtown Sonora with my husband and 3 year old daughter. In preparation for Tuolumne County Art Week (April 10-18) I've teamed up with Visit Tuolumne County and we want to show you the art scene in Downtown Sonora. I'll be taking some photos of the local historic buildings to paint a watercolor too.

First stop, Local Collective, for an afternoon affogato. Local Collective sells handmade goods by local makers. Sonora is such a small town I've lived here for generations and it's so special to see friend and family "by chance" while out and about.

Time to hit the streets! I'm going to show you some of my favorite places to find art. As I was walking I spied a hand painted scull in the window of this jewelry store that specializes in Native American art and jewelry. They pulled it out of the window for me to take a photo and I found out it had been painted by the owner's grandmother. So special! I'm also in love with this hand painted spring window on Emberz. Sweet hummingbirds and wisteria.

A gorgeous mural painted by a Sonora High School student. I definitely needed a close up of the magnolia.

Let's check out our downtown art gallery, Aloft Art Gallery at Baer's. So much beautiful art in this dreamy space.

Thanks for checking out Downtown Sonora with me!

Enjoy 2nd Saturday Art Night, every second Saturday of the month, year-round. Merchants in Historic Downtown Sonora open their doors from 5:00-8:00 pm to host artists of all types for entertainment for locals and visitors.

Visit Tuolumne County Arts website to keep up with exhibitions and events throughout the community.
