Volunteer Opportunity at Columbia State Historic Park

Join us at Columbia State Historic Park to help tackle Yellow Flag Iris, which is a fast-spreading, invasive plant that has taken over part of the creek. This is a hands-on restoration and we'll be digging out the plants by the rhizome (roots and all!) to help restore the habitat and give native species a chance to thrive again. Plan for muddy conditions and plenty of splashing. You may find yourself working in standing water that ranges from ankle- to knee-deep, with a few areas that reach up to waist-deep. Waterproof footwear is required for this project. We’ll provide hip-height rubber boots to borrow, and you’re welcome to bring your own waders or tall rubber boots if you prefer.
