Railtown 1897 State Historic Park Train Excursions Opening Weekend April 4th & 5th
All aboard! The 2026 opening weekend this Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th. Railtown 1897 State Park excursion trains scheduled for 10:30 am, 12 pm, 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm. In addition to rides featuring Hollywood legend Sierra Railway No. 3, we'll have a plethora of activities to ring in the new year of operations! For example:
- Sierra Railway coach cars No. 5 in in Roundhouse and No. 6 on the whisker tracks (these classic cars were featured in numerous movies and television programs including High Noon and Petticoat Junction)
- Train crew operating the turntable at the start and end of each day
- Metal lathe turning demonstrations and Forge and ring of fire demonstrations
On our seasonal weekend train rides, April through October, guests will enjoy a memorable six-mile, 45-minute round trip ride on the rails of the famous "Movie Railroad," including past the iconic water tank seen in "Petticoat Junction," a popular TV show that aired in the 60's and 70's. Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is open daily (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day)
April-October: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
November-March: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Self-guided and guided tours available year-round. Exhibits, including a movie museum, are found throughout the grounds.
Admission to Park:
- Adults – $5 adults
- Youths – $3 youths (ages 6-17)
- Children – Free (ages 5 and under)
- Members – Free
