JAMESTOWN, Calif. – With spring blooming throughout the Mother Lode countryside, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are excited to offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience wildflowers from aboard a historic train at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. With limited availability, Wildflower Trains are available on three Saturdays – April 18, 25 & May 2, 2026 – and sell out quickly. Train ride guests check-in at 3:45 p.m. in the Carriage Room at the historic Jamestown Depot and the trains depart promptly at 4:15 p.m. on each of the three dates.
Wildflower Trains take guests on a six-mile, one-hour roundtrip ride through the scenic landscapes of California’s Gold Country. Trains usually encounter meadows and rolling hills, with such local flora as “meadowfoam,” “goldfields” and other colorful flowers typically in bloom. During the picturesque train ride experience, a State Parks naturalist will narrate the ride, identify flowers, and answer questions along the way. Train ride guests also receive a checklist, wildflower booklet, and poppy seed packet, and more.
Popular Wildflower Train tickets cost $28 for adults, $18 for youth ages 6-17 and children five and under ride free. With limited seating available, train ride tickets are available online in advance via this link or at the ticket window beginning at 10 a.m. on the day of the ride (based on availability). Tickets include Park admission, capacity is limited, and advance reservations are strongly suggested.
In addition to the special Wildflower Trains in the afternoons on three special dates, visitors are encouraged to purchase regular excursion train ride tickets on the same days departing at 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. All paid train ride tickets include Park admission and cost $23 for adults, $18 for youth ages 6-17 and are free for children five and under.
