Riding the train at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park: Have a relaxing afternoon while enjoying the rolling foothills of the Sierra from a historic train. In the spring, the windows are down and there are open-air passenger cars so you can admire the colorful wildflowers covering the hillsides.

Nature Photography: There are beautiful natural wonders around every corner in Tuolumne County! Bring your camera or sign up for one of Y Explore's photography workshops to learn how to capture the stunning scenery.

Bird Watching: Tuolumne County is home to amazing bird watching, especially at Red Hills Recreation Management Area! There are over 88 varieties on birds at Red Hills, so bring your binoculars! Road runners have even been known to be spotted!

Gold Panning: Try your luck gold panning in Columbia State Historic Park! The Matelot Gulch Mining Co staff will teach you how to pan for gold and gems just like the 49ers!

Horseback Riding: See the Sierra from your saddle! Kennedy Meadows Resort and Pack Station and Aspen Meadow Pack Station offer guided horseback rides May-October (weather depending)!

Kayaking and Paddle Boarding: Rent a kayak for the day at one of the marinas at Lake Don Pedro, New Melones Lake, or Pinecrest Lake or a paddle board from Heidi's Ski and Paddle for a peaceful afternoon on the water.

Fly-Fishing: Go on a guided fly-fishing adventure in Yosemite or the High Sierra! Yosemite Adventure Supply and ECHO Adventure Cooperative offer fun filled days casting and hopefully catching fish!

Whitewater Rafting: Not for the faint of heart! Try whitewater rafting on the Tuolumne River outside of Yosemite with one of Tuolumne County's Outfitters for an unforgettable adventure! Make your reservations today for the 2021 season!

Rock Climbing: One of the best kept Tuolumne County secrets is that it is home to world class rock climbing! From bouldering in Columbia to trad in Yosemite, there is something for every climber. Stop by Golden Chain Climbing Gear for supplies and expert information!

Backpacking: Backpacking though the back county of the High Sierra requires a lot of planning and gear but is SO worth it! Hike through the Emigrant Wilderness where you can make memories to last a lifetime!
